Format : Paperback, 213 pages

Genre : Young Adult

Charlie is a freshman.

And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular. Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it.

Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite. But he can't stay on the sideline forever. Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

I got this book finished in less than 24 hours. Seriously, I can’t stop read it since I really drowned into Charlie’s life. In some parts, Charlie is just like me. We both went to psychiatrist, and had deep thoughts about simple things, and things like one-second crying. We both had difficulties to ‘participate’. And we both loved our bestfriend.

Saya penasaran sama buku ini semenjak nonton filmnya. I don’t know, I just have a lot of crushes on Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, and all I want is reading the book so that I can imagine more scene of Charlie, Sam, and Patrick. Just saying that I like the casts, Logan is perfect to play Charlie, and so do Emma and Ezra.

Talking about the book more than the movie, as I said on my twitter, I really enjoyed reading The Perks of Being A Wallflower. Because it was full of emotion, but still keep simple. Ceritanya hanya seputar pengalaman tahun pertama Charlie di senior high school, tapi yang membuatnya berbeda adalah bagaimana karakternya bisa pas satu sama lain. Charlie is unique, and as his English Teacher said, ‘He is special’. Seperti apa yang dikatakannya, ‘“So, this is my life. And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I’m still trying to figure out how that could be.”

This book is just a simple story about teenager life. How that sometimes things are just messed up because life is not always going up. But that’s make life is normal. Just live the life as the way you want it, not the way other people want, in a positive way.

I really paid an attention in some scene of this book (and, believe me, this book is a kind of book that unconciously make you think deeply and widely, or maybe it’s just because I read it in English, so I should focus in order to understand each story). My favorite part is on the last part when Charlie and Sam had a talk because this one is meaningful. This is a quote from the that part.
“It’s just that I don’t want to be somebody’s crush. If somebody likes me, I want them to like the real me, not what they think I am. And I don’t want them to carry it around inside. I want them to show me, so I can feel it too.” (Sam)

My Rating :

4 stars - I enjoyed this book, I would recommend it

  1. Very nice book, completely fell in love with Charlie. People of all age groups can read this. I don't think older people would feel a disconnect with the content. It's sure to remind one of the teenage years and for those who are in their twenties, even they would connect with some of the philosophies outlined in the book. Thumbs up!

  2. Fen, bedanya blog ini sama yang di wordpress apa ya? Content-nya sama kan?
